Configuration 3

EcoFlow publishes both a nominal and a usable figure per BD-5-S2 module, and storage sizing should be quoted on the usable number.

  • Per module: 5.02 kWh nominal, 4.85 kWh usable (measured at 0.2C charge/discharge, 100% depth of discharge, 25 °C, beginning of life)
  • 6-module tower: 30.12 kWh nominal, about 29 kWh usable
  • 12-module system (one three-phase inverter): roughly 58 kWh usable; pv magazine Deutschland lists it as 57.6 kWh usable per inverter
  • Discharge power: 3.4 kW per module, up to 20.4 kW per 6-module stack at 800 V

The BD-5-S2 is a parallel-connected high-voltage battery compatible across EcoFlow's residential line, and it must only be operated with EcoFlow hybrid inverters.

  • Compatible inverters: OCEAN 2 Hybrid Inverter Three-Phase, OCEAN 2 Plus Single-Phase, OCEAN 2 Single-Phase, PowerOcean Three-Phase, PowerOcean Single-Phase, PowerOcean Plus Three-Phase
  • Third-party inverters and mixed-brand battery strings are explicitly excluded by the manual
  • Maximum module counts: 12 on OCEAN 2 3ph / Plus 1ph, 9 on PowerOcean 3ph, 6 on the single-phase units
  • Check the official matrix per project

Modules stack wire-free via click-on terminals on the OCEAN 2 battery base, and previous-generation PowerOcean packs can be mixed in.

  • Per tower: up to 6 modules floor-standing (3 wall-mounted)
  • Parallel towers: junction boxes, up to 3 in parallel, connect cascaded stacks
  • Per inverter: up to 12 modules on one OCEAN 2 three-phase or OCEAN 2 Plus inverter
  • Mixed stacking: hybrid stacking with previous-generation PowerOcean LFP packs is officially supported, capped at 4 modules per stack in mixed use, so existing gen-1 installs can be expanded rather than replaced
  • EcoFlow's caveat: for more than 4 packs in one stack, verify local regulations and that the installed firmware supports 6-pack stacks
  • Failed modules are isolated automatically so the rest of the stack keeps operating

Availability & compliance 1

The OCEAN 2 LFP battery is certified across several safety, EMC and application standards.

  • Battery/safety certification: IEC/EN 62619 (safety of industrial lithium cells/batteries), IEC/EN 62040-1, IEC/EN 62477-1, ISO 13849-1, VDE-AR-E 2510-50 (the German application rule for stationary lithium storage)
  • CE-marked, ships under UN 38.3
  • EMC: EN 61000-6-1/-2/-3/-4
  • Grid-code compliance (VDE-AR-N 4105 / EN 50549 in Germany) sits with the OCEAN 2 hybrid inverter the battery operates behind; the battery itself must only be operated with EcoFlow hybrid inverters per the manual
  • EcoFlow also states its products meet the German BattG battery-law requirements for disposal/return

Operation & warranty 1

Warranty

EcoFlow grants 15 years on the battery (pv magazine Deutschland; capacity-retention terms follow EcoFlow's warranty policy, request the document for exact figures).

Storage and handling

  • Storage: -25 °C to +60 °C (0-35 °C recommended), in original packaging
  • Long-term storage: keep at ~60% state of charge and cycle 30%→60% every three months
  • Never rail- or air-freight the modules
  • Power the system on promptly after installation to avoid capacity loss
  • Charge/discharge power derates above 40 °C ambient and below 0 °C; a built-in heater conditions the pack in cold weather
