Integrated whole-home backup with 0 ms load-side switchover

EcoFlow's headline feature: backup for the whole house is built into the inverter itself — a 72 A bypass on the single-phase OCEAN 2 Plus units — so no external backup box and no extra rewiring are needed.

On grid loss the load side switches in 0 ms, keeping lights, appliances and IT running without noticeable interruption.
EcoFlow's own footnote: the 0 ms figure applies under compliant, stable grid conditions with total load below the rated backup output.

EcoFlow Battery Junction Box

For multi-tower installations: cascaded battery stacks connect through a junction box (built-in 1500 V DC / 32 A fuse, battery switch, B-COM port)up to 3 junction boxes can run in parallel. Not needed for a single integrated stack under the inverter. Confirm the OCEAN 2-compatible junction-box variant when ordering.

EcoFlow Battery Stack Bridge

Official bracket for dual-tower battery systems: rigidly ties two adjacent towers together (base spacing 94.6-104.5 mm for OCEAN 2 bases).EcoFlow recommends securing both sides of each battery unit — 12 brackets for two 6-module towers — and seismic restraint in seismic zones.

Availability & compliance 1

Check this carefully before quoting for Germany, VDE-AR-N 4105 is not printed on the single-phase datasheet.

  • Grid-tied standards listed: EN 50549, G99, UNE, NTS, AS/NZS 4777.2 (unlike the three-phase OCEAN 2 datasheet, which lists VDE-AR-N 4105 explicitly)
  • German connection rules constrain how much single-phase power may feed in asymmetrically, so a 6-12 kW single-phase hybrid is typically the wrong architecture for a German three-phase house connection
  • The three-phase HD-P3 units are the standard choice for Germany, while the P1 line targets single-phase markets (e.g. UK under G98/G99)
  • Safety certification: IEC/EN 62109-1/-2; battery side carries IEC/EN 62619 and VDE-AR-E 2510-50
  • Confirm the unit's German certificate status and your DSO's requirements with the quote

Configuration 3

The OCEAN 2 LFP battery is modular and stacks wire-free, with mixed-generation support under specific limits.

  • Module sizes: 5.02 kWh (BD-5-S2) and 8 kWh (BD-8-S2)
  • Per tower: up to 6 modules floor-standing (3 wall-mounted)
  • Per inverter: per EcoFlow's official compatibility matrix, up to 12 modules per OCEAN 2 Plus single-phase inverter, with multiple towers connected in parallel
  • Mixed stacking of OCEAN 2 and previous-generation PowerOcean packs is officially supported but capped at 4 modules per stack in mixed use
  • EcoFlow's own caveat: installing more than 4 packs in one stack requires checking local regulations and that the current firmware version supports 6-pack stacks
  • Each 5 kWh module contributes 3.4 kW discharge / 2.5 kW charge

No separate backup box is required, the OCEAN 2 Plus switches the load side in 0 ms on grid failure via an integrated bypass.

  • Integrated bypass: 72 A (max. AC input current 72 A per the datasheet)
  • EcoFlow's conditions for the 0 ms figure: local grid-code compliance, an open-circuit grid state, total load below the rated backup output, and stable grid conditions, quote it with that footnote
  • The backup side also accepts existing third-party PV inverters
  • Generators can be integrated via an ATS for extended outages
  • Off-grid parallel operation is limited to 2 cascaded inverters (5 on-grid)

A grid-point smart meter is built into the OCEAN 2, so in the standard topology no external meter is required.

  • EcoFlow lists "built-in smart meter, save 50+ minutes" as an installation feature
  • Standard topology: all loads behind the backup output, no external meter needed
  • An external EcoFlow smart meter is only needed when part of the household load is NOT wired behind the backup output and the system must still see total grid import/export for self-consumption optimisation and export limiting
  • Clarify the load topology before quoting

Operation & warranty 2

Warranty

EcoFlow grants a 15-year warranty on both the battery and the power electronics (pv magazine Deutschland, July 2026, confirming the "15 YEAR WARRANTY" on EcoFlow's own datasheets and product pages). Capacity-retention terms follow EcoFlow's published warranty policy, request the warranty document for exact figures; no retention percentage is printed on the OCEAN 2 datasheets.

Maintenance

  • Commissioning runs through the EcoFlow app (installers use the Pro app with a 3-step commissioning flow)
  • Firmware updates arrive over the air
  • A cloud BMS with early-warning alerts, self-calibration and remote troubleshooting (EcoFlow claims 80% remote troubleshooting accuracy) reduces the need for physical intervention

Yes, this is a core selling point for German households on dynamic tariffs.

  • The integrated HEMS supports more than 500 dynamic electricity tariffs in Europe, charges in low-price windows and discharges during peaks (pv magazine Deutschland)
  • Integrates SG-Ready heat pumps and other smart-home components
  • Monitoring and control run via the EcoFlow app, the web portal or the PowerInsight 2 wall monitor
  • EcoFlow's ecosystem also pairs the PowerPulse EV charger, PowerHeat heat pump and Smart Plug under the same energy manager
