MBS KBU 58 600/5 A split-core current transformer, Class 0.5

A 600 A : 5 A split-core current transformer in accuracy Class 0.5, made in Germany by MBS.

  • Divisible (split) core clamps over an existing live conductor or busbar — no need to disconnect the circuit to fit it.
  • Class 0.5 accuracy on every ratio (400/5, 500/5, 600/5, 750/5, 800/5, 1000/5 A), all with a standard 5 A secondary for meter/relay wiring.
  • Made in Germany, rated -5 to +40 °C operating.
  • Rated burden runs 1 VA on the 400/5 A unit up to 5 VA on the 1000/5 A unit — check the datasheet download for the exact figure on your ratio.

Metering logic

Zero export starts with numbers that hold up.

Bidirectional metering at the grid connection point feeds the inverter the import and export truth it needs.

The core divides — you do not break the busbar

The core divides — you do not break the busbar

MBS: 'Teilbare Stromwandler können nachträglich ohne Unterbrechung des Primärkreises über bestehende Leiter oder Stromschienen geklemmt werden.' A closed ring transformer has to be threaded, which means taking the service down and unbolting the bar.

On a running site that is usually not an option at all.

General 4

Because you cannot fit one to a service that is already running.

  • A closed ring has to be threaded onto the conductor, so the bar must be unbolted and the supply taken down.
  • On a retrofit that is the difference between a job you can take and a job you cannot.

Class 1 is not recommended for the GoodWe GM330.

  • Requirement: GoodWe requires a sampling error ≤1% and recommends class 0.5, 0.5S, 0.2 or 0.2S.
  • Class 1: exactly at the limit and outside the recommendation.
  • Watch the channel: the KDK 200/5 A split-core widely advertised as 'Klasse 1, suitable for the GM330' is Klasse 3 in KDK's own catalogue — ±3%.

One per phase: L1, L2 and L3 — three for a three-phase service. Do not fit one on N.

400 A, on a busbar, is the lowest ratio available in Class 0.5 with a split core.

  • Below that, no true Class 0.5 split-core busbar transformer exists in the German channel.
  • The sub-400 A Class 0.5 split-cores are cable types with an 18 mm aperture, which is useless on a bar.
  • If your service is under 400 A, spec the CT up to 400/5 A rather than dropping to Class 1.
