No — that is the point of this meter. It communicates with the EK90 inverter over LoRa with an optimal range of 150 m even through walls, so retrofitting a data run between a distant meter cabinet and the inverter location is unnecessary. If the site is beyond reliable radio reach (long distances, heavy shielding), the EK90 also supports wired meter connections over RS485 as the fallback — confirm the wired meter model with SAJ when quoting.
Real-time grid import/export sensing at the connection point. That is the input for self-consumption optimisation, load monitoring, the AI Saving energy management and — critically for German installs — export limitation / zero-export control, where the meter interacts with the inverter to keep feed-in within the permitted limit. Without a grid-point meter these functions cannot work.

SAJ's manual describes the EK90 system as 'providing' a dual-channel wireless meter, i.e. it is the system's default metering device. Scope of delivery can differ per market and configuration, so confirm whether your EK90 package includes the Wireless-pro meter or whether it must be added — we check this against the current SAJ order lists when you request a quote.
SAJ documents it as a control and monitoring meter for the storage system — measuring parameters and interacting with the inverter for energy management and zero-export control. SAJ does not state an MID billing approval for it in the published EK90 material, so do not use it as a substitute for the utility's billing meter; it sits alongside the DSO's meter. If a project needs certified sub-metering, ask us to confirm the applicable SAJ meter option.
